So there are two ways to do Saratoga. You can go the posh way with the big hats, pay for seats up in the stands, and feel like a rich person for the day or you can join the peasants down in the picnic tables. My suggestion be a peasant. What I have always loved about Saratoga is it's sense of freedom. In the free area you can bring a couple coolers filled with your favorite beer, some snacks, a few lawn chairs, maybe light cigar and bet on some horses.
The key is to arrive NICE AND EARLY. My family likes to arrive nice and early to grab a picnic table. If you're going on a weekend the likelihood of grabbing a table is slim to non but theres plenty of area to lay out a blanket, unfold the lawn chairs, and create a nice little picnic area.
The Many different ways the Jordan Family bets:
-My dad likes to be strategic and bet on boxes. Which means betting on two or three horses that will hopefully come in first second and third.
-I like betting on long shots.
-Jack, my brother will spend a lot of time looking at stats
-My mother bets on horses with the best names.
Whatever the method the Jordan family was incredibly unlucky this trip and we all walked away big losers.
The fam bam :)
In addition to the races there are plenty of little shops and eateries around to purchase your horse racing memorabilia, buy yourself one of those huge hats, or grab a sausage a peppers sandwich with a side of beer.
There are plenty of televisions all over the park to watch the race but i'd suggest going to the track to see the race live. You have to pay to be in the elevated seats but its completely unnecessary. You can see the races great from the standing room and benches.
Horse getting a quick rinse after the race
Saratoga was not kind to my wallet this time but theres always next year.
